For experienced canyoneers only

Angon Integral is not a beginner trip. It is for people who have already done canyoning and are comfortable on ropes. If this is your first canyon experience, choose the Discovery or Angon Advanced first — those are the right steps before tackling the Integral.

The classic alpine descent, in its entirety

Angon Integral is the canyon in its full length: 250 metres of vertical drop over 710 metres of distance, from the upper section above Pont des Fées all the way down to the exit. A complete descent where the full alpine character of the site reveals itself, very different from trips that only do the lower section.

The highlight is, obviously, the great 60-metre waterfall, which we abseil here in a single pitch. Where the Advanced trip enters via the tourist walkways at the mid-relay (-25m, for a 35m descent), the Integral takes the abseil from the top. The full verticality of the cascade, uninterrupted, right in the flow.

Before and after this signature descent, the course strings together small drops, jumps into pools, natural slides and guided downclimbs. It's also on the Integral that you cross the famous "Letterbox", the slot under a rock block that gave the canyon its nickname. A committing, dense day with real narrative coherence — from summit to exit.

The 60-metre single-pitch abseil

This is the signature of the Integral, and the major difference from the other Angon trips. On the Advanced, you enter via the tourist walkways for a 35m abseil from the mid-relay. On the Integral, you take the waterfall from the top: 60 metres of vertical descent, no relay, in the full flow.

Before reaching the great waterfall, you string together 2 small drops, 2 short rappels, then a 12-metre cascade that flows directly into the C60. It's a committing sequence: the C12 is unforgiving, and you must be perfectly comfortable on rope before starting the great descent.

The 60m abseil is vertical, soaked in spray, right in the flow. No intermediate relay to catch your breath. That's exactly why this trip is for experienced canyoneers only: you must manage your gear without hesitation, in the noise and the spray. Guides install and supervise all ropes, but you descend autonomously.

Your Integral day, step by step

From welcome at the Angon chalet to return. A full half-day with around 4 hours in the canyon.

1
20 minutes · At the Angon chalet

Welcome & technical equipment

Meet at our Angon chalet, by the lake. The guide checks your level and explains the day. Equipment with 5mm neoprene wetsuit, helmet, canyoning harness and rope gear. In-depth technical briefing on rope handling for the great abseil.

2
15 minutes · Carpooling

Drive to Vesonne hamlet

We carpool with the guide to the Vesonne hamlet, the access point to the upper canyon. No need to find the way, we drive you there directly.

3
45 minutes · Mountain trail

Approach hike to Pont des Fées

The approach is on foot, with the wetsuit in the bag, along a trail on the right bank of the canyon. We cross a first stream, then reach the second stream that marks the start of the course, just upstream of the Pont des Fées. Beautiful views over the valley and the Bornes range during the climb.

4
30 minutes · Warm-up

The first obstacles

The opening section starts with 2 small drops (watch out for rocks in the pools), then 2 short rappels to acclimatise. Time to get comfortable, find your rope reflexes, and let the guide assess your real level before the more committing sections.

5
1h · The big moment

The C12 + 60m waterfall sequence

The key passage of the course. First the 12m cascade, falling into a cold shaded pool that drains directly into the great fall. Then the great 60-metre single-pitch abseil. The guide installs ropes, sends people down one by one. No possible relay: you descend autonomously, managing friction, flow and spray. It's intense.

6
1h30 · Lower section

Jumps, slides and Letterbox

After the intensity of the great abseil, the lower canyon offers a playful alternation: jumps into pools, natural water-carved slides, and the iconic "Letterbox" passage — a slide under a large rock block that can become siphonic in high flow (always optional, downclimb alternative). Walks between obstacles never exceed 5 minutes.

7
10 min exit + 15 min return to chalet

Exit & return

The exit is on the left bank, 200m after the last jump, via a marked trail joining the council path. Carpool return to the Angon chalet with the guide. Gear return, hot shower, and sending of photos and videos taken during the trip.

Your questions about Angon Integral

Answers to questions specific to this expert trip.

What exact level do I need for this trip?
The Integral is for experienced practitioners only. Concretely, you must have done at least 2 or 3 canyoning trips with rappels and be comfortable on ropes (autonomous descender management, no panic in heights). A background in climbing, regular via ferrata or mountaineering is a plus but not essential. In doubt, contact us: we validate your level before booking.
What's the concrete difference with Angon Advanced?
Three major differences: (1) we take the waterfall from the top (60m single-pitch) instead of entering via the walkways at mid-height (35m). (2) We do the entire canyon (710m long, 250m vertical drop) instead of just the lower section. (3) Before the great abseil, we string together small drops and the 12m cascade that flows directly into the C60 — technically more committing. The trip lasts 4h instead of 3h.
What does 60m single-pitch abseil mean concretely?
On some canyons, big waterfalls are equipped with an intermediate relay allowing a breather mid-height. At Angon, the relay exists (-25m, accessible via the walkways) and is what we use for the Advanced. On the Integral, we shunt this relay and descend the 60 metres continuously. No pause, no stop: you must manage your rope, your pace, the flow and the spray on a much longer descent.
What is the "Letterbox"?
It's the passage that gave the Angon canyon its nickname. A kind of natural slide under a large rock block, where the water dives in. You pass through by sliding, like a letter through a slot. In high flow, this passage can become siphonic: it's then avoided, with a downclimb alternative offered. It's an iconic playful moment at the end of the course, after the great abseil.
How many people in the group?
On the Integral, groups are deliberately smaller than on other trips: 4 to 6 people maximum per guide. Managing the 60m abseil takes time (each person descends autonomously), and the guide must monitor each descent individually. For larger organised groups, we deploy several guides.
What happens if I get stuck in the waterfall?
The guide stays at the top while you descend and can block the rope in case of a problem. If stuck (descent too slow, fatigue, panic), they can either pull you back up via a hauling system, or descend you with assistance. It's extremely rare on the experienced practitioners we take on this trip, but the equipment and know-how are there.
Can I do the Integral as my first canyoning trip?
No. This trip is absolutely not suitable as a first experience, even if you're very sporty. The 60m abseil and the C12+C60 sequence assume rope reflexes that only build up over several trips. If it's your first canyon, start with the Discovery or go directly to Angon Advanced, the perfect step before the Integral.
Can the trip be done in high flow?
The Angon canyon supports a good flow, but the Integral becomes significantly more committing in high water. The bottom of the C60 can become dangerous (whirlpool, washing machine), and the "Letterbox" can siphon. In high flow, the guide may either cancel the trip or replace the C60 passage with a dry alternative (rare). The decision is always made for maximum safety.
Should I bring a snack?
The Integral is a long trip (~5h total with transport and approach hike). We recommend bringing a light energy snack (cereal bar, dried fruits, banana) in a waterproof bag the guide can carry. No big lunch: you eat little during the descent. The big meal break is on return, at the chalet or on a lakeside terrace.
Is the canyon busy?
The Integral is less frequented than the short trips (Discovery, Advanced) since it requires more commitment and a higher level. You may cross other groups, but the atmosphere stays more intimate than at the bottom of the canyon. The morning trip also avoids tourist crowds at the end of the course.
