If you love jumping, this is the one

The Montmin canyon is our most aquatic and playful trip. Located on the Faverges-Seythenex side, at the foot of La Tournette (highest peak around Lake Annecy), it's a mountain torrent packed with pools, natural slides and jumps — far more than any other canyon in the region.

Where the Angon canyon is known for its ropes (waterfall abseil), Montmin is known for its 8 to 10 jumps along the trip, from very small ones up to a 5-6 metre jump for the bold. Always optional, never forced. This is the canyon where you barely ever leave the water.

It's also a canyon where we use almost no ropes. Guides occasionally set up a few short rappels, but the bulk of the trip is jumps, slides on water-carved chutes, and swimming. Perfect if big abseils don't appeal to you, or if you're looking for something more dynamic and less technical.

Jump in the Montmin canyon near Annecy

A jump every 5 minutes

This is what makes Montmin unique: an unmatched jump frequency. On average every 5 minutes, you face a new passage where you can jump into a pool, slide down a water-carved chute, or both back-to-back.

The progression is smooth: you start with small 1-2m jumps to get used to it, then build up gradually to the more committing passages. The highest jump on the trip reaches 5 to 6 metres — impressive but accessible if you're up for it. As always, that big jump stays optional: a downclimb or short rappel alternative is always offered.

The water is fresh, clear, fed directly by the springs of La Tournette. The landing pools are deep and clean, checked by the guide before each trip. This is the canyon you leave euphoric and exhausted.

Your questions about the Montmin canyon

Answers to questions specific to this playful trip.

Are the jumps mandatory?
No, all jumps are optional. For each passage, the guide offers an alternative: downclimb, short rappel or bypass. You choose every time. Many participants start by watching the first jumps and then go for it as confidence builds. No one is ever pushed.
How high is the biggest jump?
The biggest jump on the trip reaches 5 to 6 metres. It's high but accessible if you're up for it. Most jumps are between 1 and 3 metres, perfect for fun without anxiety. The biggest jump is at the end of the course, when you're confident.
Do I need previous canyoning experience?
Not required. The Montmin canyon is accessible to any adult or teenager (from age 14) in good physical condition, even without prior canyoning experience. It's actually an excellent first experience if you're sporty and comfortable in water, since there's little rope technique to learn.
Where exactly is the meeting point?
At the Angon chalet, by the lake, just past Talloires. That's our base. From there, we reach the Montmin canyon by carpooling with the guide (~20 minutes), so no need to find the canyon yourself. You leave your car at the chalet and ride with the group.
How long does the whole trip take?
Plan for about 4 hours total: 15 min of equipment at the chalet + 20 min outbound + 10 min approach hike + 2h in the canyon + 10 min exit + 25 min return to the chalet. The canyon descent itself is 2h, but the booked slot is longer.
Is the water cold in June or September?
Montmin water stays cool all season (10-13°C average) since it comes directly from the Tournette springs. But thanks to the 5mm neoprene wetsuit we provide, you only feel a pleasant coolness. Optimal season runs from June to mid-September; outside that, water flow is too high.
How many people in the group?
Our Montmin groups have between 4 and 8 people per guide. It's the ideal format: enough for a good vibe, small enough for the guide to check each jump individually. For organised groups (birthdays, stag/hen parties), we can mobilise several guides.
Are there any rope descents (abseils)?
Very few. That's the big difference with Angon Advanced. At Montmin, there are only a few short occasional rappels (5-8m max), mainly where downclimbing would be too technical. If you want big abseils, choose Angon Advanced with its 35m abseil in the waterfall instead.
What if I get scared at the moment of jumping?
It's completely normal, and the guide takes the time to reassure you. No pressure: you can take 30 seconds or 5 minutes before jumping, or not jump at all. Downclimbing is always available. Many participants discover they jump more easily than expected once put at ease.
What happens in case of rain or storm?
Moderate rain isn't a problem. However, the Montmin canyon is more sensitive to heavy rain than Angon, because flow can rise quickly. In case of storm or flood risk, the trip is cancelled by the guide for your safety. Full refund or free reschedule. A backup trip at Angon may be offered.
